Forged In the Fires

Devil’s Holler is a project from multi-instrumentalist and Pittsburgh native Rob Gray. Rob released his first album “Songs for the Half Awake” as Several Conclusions in 2008. Labeled by Margaret Welsh of the Pittsburgh City Paper as “an appropriate soundtrack for sufferers of seasonal-affective disorder.” , Rob put out a second album under this moniker called “How we pass” (2011) crafting a haunting evolution of spooky americana. Songs of death, love, whiskey and loss stretch over each album. In 2014 “Croatoa” hits the airwaves as a full 10 track release under the name “Devil’s Holler”. Devil’s Holler boasts a new fuller roster of dark tracks. Full of slide guitar, bass and stopbox. While still sneaking in a few bare bones acoustic tracks.

Rob has shared the stage with a long list of local and national artists such as David Childers, Jim Avett, Possessed by Paul James, Lorin Walker Madsen, Stevie Tombstone, The Roe Family Singers, Whiskey Dick, Jimmy Swope, The Tillers, Mickey and the Snake Oil Boys, Slim Forsythe and his New Payday Loaners, The Beagle Brothers, The Harlan Twins, Faithful Sinners, Buddy Nutt and many more. You can find Rob hootin and a hollering in the backwoods of Beechview, around campfires with The Wayward Strangers or pickin on his porch. The ghosts of mentors like Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley and Jolie Holland are entwined in every strum and verse echoing through the neighborhood. Devil’s Holler tracks can be found on Pandora, Spotify, Itunes and pretty much any major digital platform. Though there are always homemade CDs to be found at every live performance. As of summer 2017 Rob has just released his latest album “The Dusty Road Stumble”, soon to be available on a plethora of digital platforms.
